Assessment

Three progress reports must be completed using our report card format.  Teachers are responsible for ensuring that all information is completed for each individual student, comments are edited for grammar and proofread for spelling, sent to the principal for review before they are handed out to parents and a copy of each child’s report must be given to Lisa to place in student record files in the office.  Teachers, please use a buddy proofreading check with another teacher to ensure errors are minimized.  If PowerSchool works the way we hope it will this year, all student data will be input within the GradeBook component of PowerSchool. Term 1 and Term 2 report cards will be paperless and accessible on PowerSchool.  Term 3 will be handed out as a hard copy.  Under no circumstances may student records be taken out of the office.  Arrange a time to access them as they are under lock and key.  Student data can be accessed through your computer PowerSchool program. Report card templates and information can be found on our staff network. Please discuss any difficulties or questions with the principal.

Parent/teacher interviews are to be conducted after each report.

A Celebration of Learning will be held before the Term 2 progress report is distributed.  This student-led conference allows parents to gain first-hand information about their child’s learning and gives both parents and students the opportunity to set goals for the rest of the school year.

The annual Betty Parker-Jervis Writing Composium occurs in May.   Betty Parker-Jervis, The Society for Talent Education administrator for many years, was instrumental in keeping the Suzuki Method alive in Edmonton and supported the inception of a Suzuki Kindergarten.  In her honour and to help the students prepare for provincial exams and HLATs, all students participate in writing excellent stories.  The stories are to be discussed and the one that best represents good writing in each class will be celebrated at the June assembly.

For government reporting purposes, we need to provide Alberta Learning with data to measure our charter goals.  Here are few expected assessment tools we use:

  • Provincial Achievement Tests are written every year by grades three and six
  • Canadian Ability Tests (CAT) are written every second year
  • CAMP Science and Math Tests are written every year by grades one-six
  • Locally determined French exam for each grade
  • HLAT (Language Arts) Reading and Writing tests are written each year by grades one – six.
