Parents Helping Their Children Succeed

As a Suzuki parent, there are strategies you can follow that will aid your child in achieving excellence this school year.

  • Have your child eat nutritiously and get proper rest.
  • Assure your child is at school and that s/he is on time, preferably five minutes earlier to sharpen pencils, fill water bottles and such.
  • Discuss how important it is to get one’s work done first.
  • Model and discuss how to respect others and property.
  • See that assignments are completed and handed in on time.
  • Spend time reviewing class work and concepts taught.
  • Make time for daily uninterrupted music practice time.
  • Be vigilant about listening to Suzuki repertoire, and surround your child’s environment with other good music.

It is the little steps taken each day that add up to your child reaching his or her full potential.  Success occurs when we try the best we can every day.

Homework and Practice

Homework consists of completing unfinished assignments, extra drill in an area where a student needs practice, daily music listening and practise, or review of work given that day.  It may also include completing long-term assignments.

Homework helps students develop self-reliance and good study habits and enables parents to see their child’s progress.  Parents can help by providing a quiet, regular place to work, help organize their child’s time and be a supportive audience for reading practice, spelling, and math drills.  Your interest has a considerable influence on your child’s attitude toward homework.  Keep in touch with the teacher.  Your child is also expected to practice his/her instrument regularly.

Parent Volunteers

Our school relies upon the participation and active involvement of parents and friends.  The success of education offered by Suzuki Charter School depends upon the school and home working together.  All volunteers will be required to complete a request form, follow volunteer guidelines, wear an identification lanyard and sign in and out.  Please ask for information about volunteering in the office.

Fundraising

Fundraising activities are designated towards community priorities.  This year, they are targeted for outdoor play equipment, educational resources including , special events such as student track and field day and technology.  A variety of fundraising activities including craft and bake sales, casino, value packs, silent auction and hot lunch have been done in the past.  The funds go towards maintaining our requirements and to provide more enhanced programs for students.  A representative committee assesses input from all community members, and parents are informed on how the money will be spent.
