K-6 Registration Procedure
K-6 Lottery Submission Form Thank you for your interest in registering your child in our unique educational experience at Suzuki Charter School. Our admission process starts with an in-house registration to see how many students are returning and whether they have siblings ready to enter Kindergarten. This enables us to identify all available openings. After the in-house registration of children of registered families and staff members is complete, we open registration to the lottery draw. Anyone who has contacted the school and asked to be a part of our lottery will receive an invitation to our Open House. The Open House takes place early in February each year and will help you to make an informed decision about your child’s education and explain our registration procedure so that you understand the program and requirements. Our charter’s focus is music learned by the Suzuki Method, which consists of two components: individual and group lessons. It is imperative to our program that all students have a private Suzuki-trained teacher, teaching the Suzuki method. Parents are responsible for providing individual private lessons and the instrument for their children at their expense. Suzuki Charter School extends this musical foundation by providing group classes and enriching musical experiences. The next step in the process you will need to complete is the parent observation forms. You may observe both individual private Suzuki lessons and group lessons. Please note we do require at least two individual private lessons to be observed. You may contact any one of the instructors to coordinate a time when you may observe individual (private) lessons. You are invited to observe Suzuki Charter School group lessons on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The lessons are half an hour in length. Please phone to make an appointment. The final step in the registration process is to provide us with a completed registration form, a copy of your child’s birth certificate (a copy can be made at the school) as well as all necessary fees. The fees are:
- the instructional fee
- 1st child – $155.00
- Each additional child – $135.00
- lunch supervision fee ($222 per child, grades one to six only), and,
- for kindergarten students, an additional $20.00 fee for Kindercooking.
All fees must accompany the registration to be considered complete. You may provide post dated cheques; date for the first day of school. For those students transferring into our program in Grades 1-6, we also require a copy of your child’s most recent report card and for your to come in and have an interview with our principal.
I hope I have answered all your questions. If you would like to receive an invitation to our Open House, please email Lisa Leflar, School Secretary, the following information: 1. Last name 2. Child’s first name 3. Parents’ names 4. Date of Birth 5. Address 6. Postal Code 7. Home Phone/Work Phone/Cell Phone/Email 8. Grade your child is eligible for in September 2012. It is imperative that all lottery candidates understand that we will attempt to accommodate every instrument request; however some instruments may be filled, so it is always best to be prepared to accept other instruments.
